Walnut blasting is the the process of remove carbon deposits from intake chambers and valves using compressed air and crushed walnut shells
Most modern vehicles now utilize direct fuel injection which means injectors are fitted directly into the cylinder and not the inlet manifold while the allows for better power and fuel consumption it does mean fuel does not wash the valves as it passes over them keeping them free from carbon.
This does not not cause immediate problems but over time the build up of carbon could cause increased fuel consumption , running issues and lack of performance
To give the intake chamber and valves a clean, the process involves removing the inlet manifold to allow access to the intake ports . Once access is gained , using the equipment the correct adapter is fitted to the vacuum side of the tool and the blasting nozzle is inserted through the hole. then using compressed air the walnut shell is blasted into the ports removing the carbon deposits and the removed via the vacuum .
