What is a wet belt?
A wet belt is a type of timing belt/cam belt that runs inside the engine rather on the outside like a dry belt. The term "wet" relates to the belt running within the engine oil gallery behind a metal cover keeping the belt lubricated with engine oil.
When to replace a wet belt?
Ford recommended that these are replaced at 150,000 miles or 10 years, we are advising customers to get this done at 60,000 miles or 6 years due to seeing these fail prematurely which cause catastrophic engine damage.
To prolong the life of these belts it is recommended to service them every 10,000 miles using correct oil as these contain additives to help prolong the belt.
